As the number of homeschooling families skyrocketed nationwide, Homeschool Iowa recognized a need to strategically equip local homeschool leaders to better guide their groups.

In December of 2020, Homeschool Iowa applied for and was issued a grant by the Homeschool Community Foundation to host a two-day leadership seminar designed to train local homeschool leaders to better support and help sustain new homeschool families.

New and existing homeschooling families will directly benefit from this grant. By investing in local homeschool leadership, the entire homeschool community will be strengthened and served. By equipping 50 leaders, these individual could in turn support 500-5000 homeschool families across the state of Iowa.

Homeschool Iowa hosted leaders on April 16-17, 2021 in Ankeny, Iowa.

It was a wonderful event! The leaders all left encouraged and armed with new ideas for their support groups and coops.

This is the first time Homeschool Iowa had hosted a leadership retreat in at least a decade. We do plan to continue hosting this event annually and are seeking additional grants and/or sponsors to continue keeping the cost low and value high for our participants.

Through this project, we learned that the synergy created by gathering leaders together is an important part of encouraging and equipping homeschool group leaders.
